Floods, cyclones, blackouts, crowded events, and weak coverage leave people unable to reach family or organise help. Apps that need the internet or a phone number do not work in that moment.
BaatMesh is built for that gap: short-range, multi-hop talk through the phones already in your pocket.
Built for coordination — and private talk
Public mesh for nearby coordination. Encrypted DMs when it needs to stay between two people.
Public mesh
One shared room nearby. Honest by design: anyone with BaatMesh in range can read it. Use it for “who is safe?”, “need water”, road updates — not secrets.
Direct messages
End-to-end sealed sessions (Noise-style). Relays only see ciphertext. Delivery and read ticks for DMs.
Voice & media
Short voice notes, photos, and short silent video clips over the same mesh (size-limited for Bluetooth).
Emergency / status
One-tap SOS and “I am safe” style presets in the public room.
Share location
Optional pin when you choose to send it — not a continuous track to Wontonee.
Background relay
Android can keep relaying nearby traffic with a clear notification. Pause stops send, receive, and relay.
Emergency wipe
Triple-tap wipe clears this phone’s BaatMesh identity, keys, and messages.
Languages
English and Hindi in the app.
Area chat (optional)
Optional internet bridge for a coarse geohash “area” room when you turn it on. Mesh still comes first. Off by default.
Clear about what nearby people can see
Public mesh is readable by nearby BaatMesh users and by phones that relay packets. Direct messages are encrypted for the two people in the thread. There is no BaatMesh account — core mesh does not upload your chats to a Wontonee server.

Bluetooth mesh, phone to phone
BaatMesh phones nearby discover each other over Bluetooth Low Energy. Messages can hop through other BaatMesh phones (up to 7 hops). Your phone can relay for others while the mesh is running — or you can pause anytime.
